Israel and the Zealots

Israel is gearing up for another Gaza Massacre on the most densely populated place in the world - Gaza is one third the area of the City of Dublin with a population who cannot leave of close to two million. The assault will be financed by American bilateral aid. A third of America’s overseas aid goes to Israel, the 16th richest country per capita in the world. It is worthwhile looking at the danger of zealotry to Israel and the way the extremists of Likud and religious parties have normalised their extremity to the world media and particularly to the American Public. They have made extremism feel the norm to the extent that the extremist Likud Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu feels he can lecture the US Congress on their “duty” to Israel. Remember this is the Israeli demagogue of whom assassinated Israeli Prime Minister's wife Leah Rabin said "Netanyahu created the climate that killed my husband."

Yitzhak Rabin at the White House with Yasser Arafat in 1993. He was assassinated by Yigal Amir, a radical right-wing Orthodox Jew who opposed the signing of the Oslo Accords.
Four times in their history the Jewish people have initially allied themselves and then alienated the regional superpower with their zealotry  The Assyrians, Babylonians, Egyptians and in 70 AD the Romans who destroyed their Second temple and who under Hadrian in 135 AD banished Jews from Jerusalem and from Judea which they renamed Syria Palestina. Jewish people have paid a harsh and lasting price for listening to zealots offering them false salvation in the past.

For modern Israel has fallen into the hands of zealots, Jewish extremists who believe all “The land of Israel,” including modern Jordan is theirs to settle, who have ignored the Camp David Peace accords and believe might is right. The extremist Likud Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is a Jewish racist and the son of a noted Jewish racist, Professor Benzion Netanyahu, who as a historian and leader of the revisionist Zionist faction was frozen out by the founders of Israel as a racist ideologue.  When he was 95 he opposed Israel's withdrawal of soldiers and settlers from the Gaza Strip under a disengagement plan, describing the operation as "a crime against humanity". He spoke caustically of Arabs. "The tendency to conflict is in the essence of the Arab," he once declared. "He is an enemy by essence. His personality won't allow any compromise or agreement. It doesn't matter what kind of resistance he will meet, what price he will pay. The Arab citizen's goal is to destroy us." His reference to "Arab citizens" is deliberate, elsewhere he has stated that there is no such place as Palestine and no such people as the Palestinians.

he led the Irgun's assasination squad

Those running and influencing the current State of Israel talk about terrorism with their tongue firmly in cheek for they have deep terrorist roots. Israel’s former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, personally led a terrorist massacre of women and children. During the raid on Qibya, Jordan in 1953, a total of 69 Palestinians were killed and forty-five houses, a school, and a mosque were blown-up. The act was condemned by the US State Department, the UN Security Council, and by Jewish communities worldwide.

the terrorist raid he led in 1953

And the previous Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s father was Quartermaster of the Irgun terrorist organisation (you know the guys who killed both the British and UN Peace Envoys and hanged three British soldiers including a Jewish lad from the East End). Former Foreign Minister’s Tzipi Livni’s father was the leader of the Irgun group which carried out the King David Hotel massacre which killed 92 people including four Jews. And did I mention that another previous Israeli Prime Minister, Menachim Begin, was the Irgun leader who gave the order? The father of Barack Obama’s first chief of staff and current Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, Benjamin Emanuel was an Irgun terrorist specialising in assassinations.

Palestinian girl in a protest on Nakba Day 2010 in Hebron, West Bank. Her sign says "Surely we will return, Palestine." There are 788,108 Palestinian refugees registered with UNRWA in the West Bank, most of whom are the descendants of people whose families hail from areas incorporated into Israel in 1948.

In human terms, 1948 saw the mass deportation of 700,000 Palestinians from their cities and villages, massacres of civilians, and the razing to the ground of hundreds of Palestinian villages. Mention of the word 'Nakba' in Israeli textbooks was banned by the Israeli Ministry of Education in 2009. The vast majority of Palestinian refugees, both those outside the 1949 armistice lines at the war's conclusion and those internally displaced, were barred by the newly declared state of Israel from returning to their homes or reclaiming their property. This dispossession and dispersal of the Palestinian people is known to them as al-Nakba, meaning "the catastrophe," or "the disaster.

Today, the UN reports that there are more than 4.75 million registered Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza. Of these, nearly 1.4 million live in 58 UN-operated refugee camps. The total number of Palestinian refugees worldwide is estimated to be 5.5 million—the largest population of refugees in the world. Yet Israel has consistently refused to recognize the Palestinians’ right of return, as expressed in UN General Assembly Resolution 194, Article 11. Moreover, Israel’s expulsion and internal displacement of Palestinians continues to this day, albeit on a much smaller scale than in 1948. In a very real sense, the Nakba never really ended.

Palestine, before European settlers ethnically cleansed the land

Let us not forget in our PC world why Gaza exists is two words never used in Israel; Ethnic Cleansing. Gaza exists because the Palestinians who lived in Ashkelon and the fields around it – Askalaan in Arabic – were dispossessed from their lands in 1948 when Israel was created and ended up on the beaches of Gaza. They – or their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren – are among the almost two million Palestinian refugees crammed into the cesspool of Gaza, 80 per cent of whose families once lived in what is now Israel. This, historically, is the real story: most of the people of Gaza don't come from Gaza.

Benjamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister of Israel has continued the disastrous and failed policies of Sharon and Olmert of escalating the racist brutality between Israel and the Palestinians. This determined attempt to destroy Palestinian Identity and Culture has continued unabated to the present day supported by American weapons and connivance, over $1.8 Bn. a year in US military support for Israel and the Israeli lobby hijacking the US political agenda to blackmail US Presidents and legislators into blind support for the racist and aggressive policies of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin condemned the attack, describing Goldstein as a "degenerate murderer", "a shame on Zionism and an embarrassment to Judaism". He has since become an object of veneration among Jewish settlers in the West Bank city of Hebron who organise a party at his graveside to celebrate on the anniversary of the massacre.  At his funeral Rabbi Lior said that "since Goldstein did what he did in God's name, he is to be regarded as a Righteous Man" and asserted that Goldstein was "a martyr of God; His hands are innocent, and his heart is pure." Goldstein was born and grew up in Brooklyn.

In October 2011 the IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was released in Gaza escorted by Ahmed al-Jabari, the Hamas military commander, and 477 Palestinian hostages released were released initialy by Israel as part of the deal. During Shalit’s captivity the IDF killed over 2,000 Palestinian men, women and children, continued the illegal occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem and the blockade and collective punishment of Gaza. It has protected over 100 illegal Jewish colonies on the West Bank and the annexation of Palestinian land by the so called “Security Barrier.” Over 5,000 Palestinians are still interred in Israel mostly without any trial with a minority “convicted” by Military Courts by the same IDF army of occupation. Ahmed al-Jabari's assassination by an Israeli drone on 14th November precipitated the current conflict, deliberately breaking a ceasefire which Egypt was working to make permanent. Al-Jabari was radicalised in 13 years in Israeli prisons.

Israeli protesters who do not share the zealots
 blood lust protesting in 2009

I am not anti- Jewish, indeed quite the opposite. I document elsewhere in this Blog the Jewish communities of Prague, Krakow, Marrakech and Kos and the killing machine of Auschwitz-Birkenau. I am not anti-Semitic and abhor racism in all its forms. I do not equate Zionism with racism and I would never support in any circumstances any boycott of Israel, no matter how it is dressed up. I would never support it because I understand the resonance in Jewish history of boycotts and recognise that Theodor Herzl’s advocacy of Zionism was a valid response to the bullying and suffering Jewish people were suffering in 19th Century Europe. After the events of The Shoah there is no way I could look a Jewish person in the eye and argue in favour of assimilation, even though over 70% of world Jewry lives outside of Israel.

The only way forward for Israel and the Palestinian people is a genuine Two State Solution reverting to the 1949 Line of Control and internationalising Jerusalem. There is no long term strategic interest for the United States in having Israel as its proxy military power in the Middle East and for Israel to rely on military might subsidised by a foreign power for its long term security. And for the United States perhaps when the sugar rush from the killing of Bin Laden has worn off perhaps it might reflect that the two greatest threats to its own security come from its own greed. It’s greed for oil which has made it dependant on the Saudi tyranny and its greed for cocaine which has created violent corrupt narco states in South America, in North America (Mexico) and in Afghanistan. Perhaps the greedy and incontinent consumer has to take some responsibility for the consequences of their own profligate greed?

Israel has denied Gaza a port, control of its air space and the right of its inhabitants to move to the other Palestinian territory recognized by the Oslo accords, the West Bank. It is not, as Israel’s supporters allege, that Hamas is hiding among Palestinian civilians; rather, Israel has forced Palestinian civilians to live in a tiny strip of land that Israel turned into a war zone.

Malnourished children, restrictions on Gaza-fisherman, lacklustre sewage and water systems, and the confiscation of $4.5 billion in international aid will not improve Israel’s security in the long run. It will only increase the popularity of the Hamas Movement, decrease the effects of counterterrorism throughout the globe, and create the next generation of dangerous faith-based ideologues.

How many more children will die in the open air prison of Gaza obliterated by American weapons fired from American supplied planes to maintain the right of Jewish racists from Brooklyn to settle on stolen Arab land? It is amazing how Israeli politicians always seem find the great courage to let others fight a coward's war in Gaza coming up to Israeli elections?”

The Israeli zealots have not worked out that since the last deeply cynical and vicious “Operation Cast Lead” in 2008/2009 the world has changed and its neighbours have become more unpredictable with the possibility of Egypt re-militarising Sinai and opening its border to Gaza and Hezbollah having half of Israel within range from the north. This vicious assault far from demonstrating strength exposes Israel and its US sponsors weakness and puts the future existence of Israel in jeopardy. Israel’s policy of regime change in Gaza is doomed to failure now as it was in 2009 and Fatah is not an alternative. Israel could have negotiated with Yasser Arafat but kept him pinned down in his bunker in Ramallah for over three years and his venal successors have no credibility.

The misnamed IDF ready to fight another coward's war in Gaza

What is happening in Gaza is beyond madness, it is pig headed zealotry which once again threatens the Jewish people from within more comprehensively than any external threat. Don’t take my word for it, listen to the most respected Jewish MP in the UK speaking in the House of Commons.
