War Crimes against the Tamil People

Channel 4's "No Fire Zone" has presented shocking and irrefutable evidence of War Crimes and Genocide against the Tamil Community in Sri Lanka in 2009, a culmination of many years of repression. It also shows a gross dereliction of duty by the UN and the International Community who have been so anxious to intervene "To protect civilian life" elsewhere in Kosovo and Libya. Where is the International Criminal Court which has been so active elsewhere but seems to turn a blind eye to Western Allies? How can Prince Charles, David Cameron and @WilliamJHague go to Colombo from 15 to 17 November 2013 and shake the hands of War Criminals who are continuing to repress democracy and free speech in Sri Lanka. The Canadian Prime Minister is boycotting the event citing the impeachment of the country's Chief Justice and the execution and imprisonment of journalists and political opponents of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In 2009, following a 26 year civil war, the government of Sri Lanka launched a major offensive against the rebel forces of the Tamil Tigers or LTTE. It was supposed to be a war without witness. But there were witnesses and they filmed the appalling events as they unfolded. These witnesses included victims and government soldiers themselves.

No Fire Zone represents the culmination of three years of journalistic investigation and contains deeply disturbing new evidence, powerful eyewitness testimony and compelling personal stories of survival in a war zone - including eyewitness interviews from: Vany Viji, a Tamil civilian, Benjamin Dix, a former UN worker, Sir John Holmes, former UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, David Miliband, former Foreign Secretary, UK and Peter Mckay, former staffer UNOPS, with a title soundtrack by Tamil singer, M.I.A.

Carefully evidenced and powerfully measured, the film uses eyewitness accounts, expert opinion, and translated mobile phone and camera footage from both the victims and the perpetrators of violence. This footage enables the filmmakers, in a way almost never done before, to piece together the day-to-day horror of this war.

Viscerally powerful actuality from the battlefield, from inside the crudely dug civilian bunkers and from over-crowded makeshift hospitals, records evidence of war crimes, summary execution, torture and sexual violence. The film also addresses the culpability of the Tamil Tigers, themselves responsible for committing war crimes and for preventing civilians from trying to escape the carnage.

Since 2009 there has been no independent judicial investigation into what happened and the Government of Sri Lanka continues to say the video evidence of war crimes is faked.

Channel 4's "No Fire Zone" leaves no doubt and no wiggle room over the terrible and murderous war crimes committed by the Rajapaksa Regime in 2009. They should be hauled off to account for their crimes before the International Court in the Hague and not be legitimised by Prince Charles, David Cameron and William Hague and other leaders of a Commonwealth supposedly committed to human rights and democracy. Even International hypocrisy must have its limits?

New video showing the fate of a Tamil propagandist & TV presenter is a stark reminder of Sri Lankan government cruelty. Until now they insisted Is Aipriya died in combat. Warning: distressing images.
